camshaft position sensor

a XJ died while driving in traffic. Tried to start, cranking cranking, no start at all. Checked gas and it is there at port on fuel rail. Got a code 12 54 (camshaft sensor) 55. Called my son and tow to home. Then removed distributor cap and rotor then I found little metal with magnet is loose and saying hello and and waving at me from behind of pulse ring  :(

Pulse ring removed and found a permanent magnet of Distributor pickup coil (part# 53009077) was loose

magnet

removed pin at bottom end gear, distributor disassembled, it is a part with many funny name

magnet should be there vertically,  the black plastic stripes were also broken, originally they should be at the both sides of magnet, here it is used temporarily for photo, magnet wants to jump to hall sensor at opposite side

got a two part epoxy and used some copper wire to mount magnet to plastic

wait till epoxy harden enough and more epoxy there, where it needed

 Looks good to go

Assembled and ready to install in engine.

Distributor installed, PCM reset, and time to start engine. Wooohoo it works. Engine turned off and left for 24 hours to cure epoxy fully

Anyway, ordered new one, repaired one may not last long.
